Beer and Baptism

Posted by Bessie on June 14th, 2008

From Simple Church Journal
When we baptize new believers we have taken Neil Cole’s advice which is, “baptize people as soon as possible and as publicly as possible.”  In short, we throw a party.  Not for the already-churched, but for the families and friends of the person being baptized.  In fact, when we have baptized people […]

Foundations

Posted by Bessie on May 23rd, 2008

Bob Mumford  once said “I don’t care how high you jump just as long as when you land you walk straight”.
If our foundations are uncertain, we can be swept along by ‘every wind of doctrine’ (James 1:6) and be like the seed Jesus described that fell on shallow soil and therefore withered (Mark 4:1-20).  In […]

Who’s In Your House Church?

Posted by Bessie on April 16th, 2008

Found in ‘Simple Church Journal’ Roger Thoman.
J.D. Payne has done a study of house churches, specifically those that he calls “missional house churches.”  Many interesting tidbits are found in this study.  For example…
Payne identifies four types of people who are typically involved in house churches.  I think looking at these categories of people can be […]

Posted by Bessie on April 14th, 2008

From Keith Ward who is in a home church in Narooma N.S.W.
Do people know of the 2 mainstream movies that can create good discussion and enjoyable change at a house church gathering….Bruce Almighty and Evan Almighty?

Focus on the ‘First Thing’

Posted by Bessie on April 7th, 2008

“Our home church is going through a difficult stage - different views on theological issues are causing discomfort!”  So I was told during the week, and in fact I am often told about this ‘problem’.
1.  Of course members of any group will hold different views on all sorts of things.  Why should a home church be any […]
