One Response to “We’d love to hear from you!”

Hello Bessie, greetings from the homechurch in Yeppoon where we are about to celebrate 2 years since we left our building and went simple! A lot of people felt we’d lost it at the time ( and probably still do) and people wondered how we would grow without a ’shopfront’ or a place where new people in town could find us. Or without the kind of normal trappings that newcomers are looking for, eg kids program etc.

My answer was that we don’t necessarily want new christians that are moving into the area unless we are what they are looking for - and then the Holy Spirit is well able to connect them to us, as we found out only a week after going HC. A couple moved in from Victoria and we were exactly what they were looking for.

I mean, for a start, who wants to go through months of painfully easing people out of institutional ways unless they are looking for it. And anyway we have left the mad competitive scramble to attract the latest newcomer to join us rather than the mob down the road. I’d rather go for the unchurched - it’s less painful and more exciting. Recently we were joined by Josh, a young guy who runs the local ‘chai tea’ wagon at the local market, a key hang out for exactly the type of alternative people who love the concept of simple, social gatherings to start with. Who knows what his involvement with us will lead to.

It was good talking to you the other day and I’m looking forward to meeting you sometime. Bless you, Phil Walters
